Completed my Scout squad the other day and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with myself. It’s really amazing how well you can progress in miniature painting. I couldn’t be happier with how my work has progressed over even just the past 3-4 years. I still don’t thin my paints as much as I should though… I have this intense compulsion to coat a model as quickly as humanly possible and thin coats are just really hard for me to do. It couldn’t be more important to thin them, and for whatever reason my default mind set is to try and coat it in one swipe. Its an uphill battle of getting myself to do it more regularly. I basically say “thin your paints” over and over again in my head while i paint. I’m getting there. Now these are a better example of me following that advice and trying really hard to break myself from one coat mentality. I think they came out great, I hope the photos do them justice, trying something new because the last ones came out really dull and dark. Think I need some better lighting. Oh well, we’ll see.
These are some minis I’ve shown off in my last post in this one, but I’ve shot these in my light box and wanted to show them off. Still working out my photo setup to get it just right but I feel like these came out decently well. These are my models I’ve completed recently. I’ve also completed a Predator tank and I’m currently in the middle of painting a Sniper scout squad. I will have photos of those up soon.
As for what’s to come, I just got a Triumvirate of the Primarch box that my parents got me as a gift. I’m super excited to see those models painted up in person. Roboute Guilliman is an amazing model. I really didn’t dig his pose he had until I saw him in person. He’s very menacing and commanding looking, perfect for the lord commander of the Imperium. We can’t forget Grand Master Voldus and Cypher, they are going to be so fun to paint. AND, I also got a land speeder storm for my scouts and a Stormtalon gunship. So I’ve got my work cut out for me for a while. Stay tuned for some oh so sweet hobby progress in the weeks and months to come.
A note on the above Techmarine: This model is from my original Imperial Fists army that I played in High school. He was painted terrible and his axe was broken in half. So what I did was strip this guy down and Give him a plasma pistol instead of his boltgun, and gave him a new hand holding a very impressive looking power axe, made out of a space wolves axe head and a grey knight Force staff handle. I was very happy with how he cam out, I really thought that it was a conversion that looked like it was meant to be.
So its been 2 years since I’ve made a post… and honestly its pretty much been the same amount of time since I’ve really painted much of anything. Over the course of the past couple years where this blog has gone dark, that Stormraven you saw last, has seen a few games, and I’m happy to say it is rightly feared by my opponent(s). But enough about the past(As nothing has really happened in it in terms of hobbying or wargaming…
Lets move on to where I am today. About a month or two ago I got the itch back to paint and play on a more regular basis. And To be honest, I’ve been killing it. I’ve torn through a good amount of minis, and if you can see from the above picture you may notice I’m revamping that old Marneus Calgar and honor Guard squad, ya know, cuz I’m insane and can never just leave stuff alone… But seriously, they are looking more up to par with my newer stuff, so I’m happy with em.
As for what the future holds, I’ve obviously decided to start posting hobby progress again, and maybe even some blurbs about he games I play. They will probably be pretty dull, as I really only have one opponent I could regularly play with, unless ya know, I go out and socialize with people at my local gaming store, but lets face it… that’s probably not gonna happen… But who knows.
I’d like to do a post a week maybe? Lets see how that pans out, and if my budget can support that much content… It may just be me painting the ridiculous back log of older minis I’ve been hanging on to for what seems like forever.
So I’ll leave this post with a few snap shots of whats been keeping me busy over that last couple months, Hope you enjoy. Thanks,
This was really fun model to paint. I was very intimidated by it to begin with, As it is very large and very detailed. But after the initial base color, it was pretty simple. I love how it came out and I can’t wait to see it rain down fiery death upon my foes. So here it is. In all its glory, my Stormraven Gunship… I guess I might need to get a Thunderhawk to fly alongside it?
I had been putting off building this model because it looked really spiky and intricate. Now I usually don’t shy away from building models, This one had just rubbed me the wrong way…
Now with that said… was it that bad to build? No. Did I really have to pay attention to the instructions? For sure! Every piece goes exactly where it needs to. So you really have to pay attention.
So here you go Bill, Have fun Painting this piece! Haha
Hope you’re reading this today Bill, I know I’ve had this model for roughly a year now… I know, I’ve had it so long I’ve forgotten when you actually gave it to me to put together haha.
Anyway, As I am always reminded of how shitty I am for not putting this model together in such a long period of time, I’ve decided that it will be today’s project. And then I’ll finally be free from shit talking haha.
So here it is in it’s 2 Box form ready to be broken out and assembled. Here goes nothing, Time to start building the Exalted Chariot of Slannesh!
OK, So I have been widdling away at this Ultramarines army for a while now, And I haven’t quite posted everything that I have finished or that is work in progress…
What I am working on currently is my Stormraven gunship(pictured below. I have magnetized all the options except for the nose mounted weapons, I have to buy smaller magnets for those. So they will just be set in place for now.
What else do I have on my plate to complete? I just ordered 2 drop pods, and I still have a devastator squad to paint.
What else have I finished? I’ve completed another tactical squad, and I’m working on the 3rd(just 3 more models to go). In addition, I have also completed my Sternguard Veterans I made out of bitz and Black reach marines.
Speaking of those Sternguard vets, as much as I like how they came out, they are nothing compared to the actual Sternguard vets boxed set that came out recently, So I will most likely invest in one down the road…
Lastly, I altered the Captain that I painted a little while back. For some reason, his pose was just not to my liking, So here’s what I did, I feel he looks a bit more commanding now.
